FAQs

Q: What hours are eBooks and eMusic available?

A: These are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q: What is streaming music?

A: This format allows you to select and listen directly to the music from the online resource – in real time without downloading or “checking out” the item.

Q: What do I need to use downloadable eBooks and eMusic?

A: You need a computer (desktop, laptop, iPod/iPhone or PDA) with Internet access, speakers or headphones.

You also need a Glendale Library card and a PIN (personal ID number). Obtain a PIN by visiting any branch of the Glendale Public Library.

For Overdrive, you will download free software (Adobe Reader or Overdrive Media Console) to your own computer.

Q: How many downloadable items can I borrow?

A: You can check out up to 5 titles from Overdrive at one time.

Q: How long can I keep eBooks on my computer?

A: Overdrive books and music can be kept for 14 days. After that, the software "returns" the items so that it can no longer be read or listened to.

Q: Can I renew Overdrive titles?

A: Yes, you can renew Overdrive titles if no one else has placed a hold on the title you want to renew.

Q: Can I place holds on Overdrive titles?

A: You may place up to 10 holds on Overdrive titles at any time. You will be notified by email when the title becomes available to borrow.

Q: Can I copy eBooks and eMusic to other devices?

A: Depending on the digital rights to individual titles, you may transfer Overdrive titles to a PDA or copy to an MP3 player or iPod/iPhone when compatible. Some titles can be copied to CD for personal use, using Windows Media Player.

eBooks may not be downloaded to Library computers. Library computers do not have the ability to copy to CDs.

Q: Can I suggest downloadable eBook titles for the Library to purchase?

A: Yes you can, but we are limited at present to Overdrive. We expect to add other selections over time.
