Brand Associates Dance Series Application

The Brand Associates Dance Series, curated by acclaimed choreographer, teacher and producer Jamie Nichols presents top dance companies from Southern California performing site-specific work in non-traditional performance spaces around Brand Library. This series began in the 1960s as part of Brand Library & Art Center's mission to promote all aspects of art.

2027 Dance Series Application

 

On behalf of the Associates of Brand Library & Art Center, we are accepting applications for the Brand Associates Dance Series 2027 season. We are looking for Dance Companies with at least 5 years of experience to present an educational, site-specific dance program appropriate for all ages onsite at Brand Library & Art Center as part of the 2027 Dance Series.​

FAQ

​

When does the Dance Series take place?
The Dance Series performance dates are scheduled for Saturday evening, May 1 through May 22, 2027.

How long is the performance?
Performances last up to 60 minutes without intermission. A director’s Q&A with audience takes place after the performance.

 

Where does it happen?
The event will take place in a non-traditional performance space at Brand Library & Art Center which can include outdoor open-air areas, pavement, and carpeted interior areas. Traditional stage setup, dance flooring, lighting, and AV tech equipment or expertise is not provided. The library can provide a small, portable audio system and a microphone. Any other technical or equipment needs are the responsibility of the dance company.

 

What should applicants consider?
The Dance Series highlights a diverse array of dance groups whose work is best fit for the unique setting. Site-specific work, adaptable performances, and low-technical needs will be considered. All performers must be aged 18+.

 

Is there a fee?
Admission is free to the public. There are no application fees. Each selected dance group will receive an honorarium for their performance.

Do you use live musicians in your performance? (Select YES or NO)
We do not provide stage flooring. Will you be bringing your own marley or stage floor and staff to install and strike the equipment? (Select YES or NO)
Is your work appropriate in a public library setting for an audience of all ages? (Select YES or NO)
Does your performance include the use of smoke/vapor effects, smoking devices, candles, or any allusions to drug use, weapons, or violence? (Select YES or NO)
Is your company a nonprofit or does it have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status? If not, who will be your fiscal receiver?
Will your dance company be able to attend a mandatory site visit and photo shoot (shot by Library staff) at Brand Library & Art Center in January 2027? (Select YES or NO)
